The kanji 虚 means void, emptiness, unpreparedness, crack, fissure, untruth. Its on’yomi (Chinese-derived reading) is キョ、コ (kyo, ko); its kun’yomi (native Japanese reading) is むな.しい、うつ.ろ (munashii, utsuro). It is written with 11 strokes, under radical 虍 (no. 141).
