The kanji 常 means usual, ordinary, normal, common, regular, continually, always, long-lasting. Its on’yomi (Chinese-derived reading) is ジョウ (jou); its kun’yomi (native Japanese reading) is つね、とこ- (tsune, toko). It is written with 11 strokes, under radical 巾 (no. 50).
