The kanji 等 means etc., and so forth, class (first), quality, equal, similar. Its on’yomi (Chinese-derived reading) is トウ (tou); its kun’yomi (native Japanese reading) is ひと.しい、など、-ら (hitoshii, nado, ra). It is written with 12 strokes, under radical 竹 (no. 118).
